ISISD School Board New Mask Resolution

RESOLUTION OF THE BOARD OF TRUSTEES OF THE IRAANSHEFFIELD IŞD 

INDEPENDENT SCHOOL DISTRICT REGARDING THE WEARING 

OF MASKS AND FACE COVERINGS ON SCHOOL PROPERTY 

WHEREAS, the Texas Commissioner of Education released updated school health and safety 

guidance on March 4, 2021, allowing the governing board of a school system to modify or eliminate 

by formal action the Commissioner’s requirement that all students and staff wear masks over their 

noses and mouths when social distancing is not possible; and 

WHEREAS, local health conditions in Iraan, Texas and surrounding areas reflect a decrease in 

the number of COVID-19 cases; and 

WHEREAS, the Board finds that individuals are able to make the best health and safety 

decisions for themselves and their families, in consultation with their medical providers: 

NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED by the Board of Trustees of the Iraan-Sheffield Independent 

School District as follows: 

1. All the above-referenced recitals are incorporated into and made a part of this Resolution. 

2. The Board of Trustees hereby releases teachers and students from the state mandate 

requiring the wearing of masks at school, subject to the following restrictions: 

a. Social distancing will remain in place where feasible in the school setting; 

b. Mask-wearing is encouraged at school events where large numbers of community 

members gather together; 

C. Mask wearing remains a personal choice and will be permitted at school; and 

d. The Superintendent is authorized to temporarily rescind this Resolution pending 

further Board action in the event of changed conditions, including an increase in 

the number of COVID-19 cases in the school population.
