IHS Names Valedictorian and Salutatorian

Jesus Perez is the son of Norma Hernandez.  Born and raised in Mexico, Jesus has been a resident of the United States for the last 3 years.  He has been an active member of the FFA Organization and served as president for the last 2 years.  He is the Vice President of the student council, as well as, a certified member of the National Honor Society.  He has received several awards throughout the years, such as Most Outstanding Student,  Most Improved Student, and Highest GPA in many classes.  He plans to attend Texas A&M in Galveston in the fall to pursue a degree in engineering.
Mariela Santana is the daughter of Juan Eloy and Elizabeth Santana. Throughout all 4 years of high school, Mariela has participated as a varsity athlete in cheer, cross country, basketball, and track. She has found much success across every sport, such as winning a Bi-District Championship in basketball, qualifying to the Regional Track Meet every year in track, and winning multiple District Championships in cross country. She has also been a member of the Big Red Band, and has competed in various UIL events where she was a part of multiple team District Championships. A couple of her many achievements this past year were being inducted into the National Honors Society as well as being chosen as Iraan’s 2020 Homecoming Queen. Her plan for the future is to attend Midland College to pursue a degree in nursing.
